Food and Feasting

In modern times, the seasons now melt into one another but people still need to be in touch with the rhythm of life and experience the changes in the cycle of the year.  Nothing is more satisfying than following the paths of our forefathers, continuing the traditions handed on to us.  There is a certain contentment in preparing for the family a dish that our grandmothers and mothers made for theirs.

There were once many and varied high days and holy days celebrated in Britain, both religious and secular.  As well as better-known feast days such as Easter, Mothering Sunday and May Day, there are long-forgotten days such as St. Agnes' Eve, Oak Apple Day, Martinmas and Stir-up Sunday to name but a few.  I hope you will, whatever time you view these pages, follow the celebrations throughout the year, adding to them your own special touches and enjoying the fruits of each season.
